Conservation & Animal Welfare

The Oceanarium is currently fundraising and raising awareness for three fantastic campaigns:

FUNDRAISING IN 2012

So far in 2012 we have managed to raise an impressive £4,200 for our three chosen campaign, with a massive thank you to our visitors for donating. To find out more about here click here.

Throughout school holidays and weekends we allow visitors to help feed our giant green sea turtles during the main feeding presentations at the Barrier Beef for a small donation. All money raised is donated to the campaign.

BIG FISH CAMPAIGN

The Oceanarium actively promotes the Big Fish Campaign, which aims to:

  • Encourage the public to research properly the fish species that they wish to own as pets
  • Overturn the notion that fish will never outgrow the size of their tanks
  • Reduce the sale of these species in pet stores to protect their welfare
  • Alleviate the problem of public aquaria being pressurised into accepting these big fish

Raising money for Monk SealsRAISING MONEY FOR MONK SEAL CONSERVATION

In 2010 and 2011, the Oceanarium and all of Parques Reunidos sites across the world including Blackpool Zoo and Lakes Aquarium choose to raise as much money as possible to help the most endangered marine mammal left on the planet, the monk seal. Through donations, fund-raising activities and of course the generosity of our visitors we were able to raise over £2,400 for the CBD-Habitat Foundations Monk Seal Conservation Project.

Throughout the two years, we held special fund raising activities at the Oceanarium, during school holidays we offered face painting and temporary tattooing for a small donation with all the money went towards the project.  We also had donations box placed within the Oceanarium.
