Explore The Oceanarium - The Abyss

An image of a Lion Fish within the Abyss

The vast majority of our seas and oceans remain virtually unexplored by man. Perpetual darkness, icy temperatures and the immense pressures involved in deep-sea exploration mean that it remains a truly undiscovered territory.

Scientists believe that more than 90% of the planet’s total available living space could be contained within the deep oceans and, with every additional journey to the bottom of the sea, strange new creatures are being discovered.

Some of the species you will find in our Abyss display are:

Creature Name Scientific Name
Nautilus Nautilus pompilius
North Pacific giant octopus Enteroctopus dofleini
