Bournemouth’s leading visitor attraction, the Oceanarium, is celebrating after being shortlisted for accolades at two of the region’s most prestigious award ceremonies.
Nominated alongside two other attractions, the aquarium has been shortlisted for the inaugural Dorset Tourism Award, sponsored by Dorset Business (the Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and P H Warr plc, at the annual Dorset Business Awards. Celebrating the region’s tourism industry, the award category recognises businesses that demonstrate excellence in service, customer care and hospitality.
While hoping for success at the Dorset Business Awards, the Oceanarium has also been nominated in four of the 16 award categories at this year’s Bournemouth Tourism Awards.
Defending its title, the aquarium has been shortlisted once more for the coveted honour of Tourism Attraction Experience of the Year and nominated for the second year running for the Sustainable Tourism Initiative of the Year at the annual award ceremony.
Winning the Marketing Initiative of the Year in both 2006 and 2007, the Oceanarium has again been shortlisted in this category, while for the first time in the history of the Bournemouth Tourism Awards, The Cove gift shop, will face competition from other retailers for the title of Best Shopping Experience of the Year.
Charlotte Brown, Marketing Manager at the Oceanarium Bournemouth, said: "We are delighted and proud to have been shortlisted for accolades at two of the region’s most esteemed award ceremonies and pleased that the local tourism industry is being recognised for the important part it plays in the local economy. Each and every nomination further asserts the Oceanarium’s position as one of the leading visitor attractions in the region.”
