Language School FAQs

What size can a group be?

The minimum group size is 10 people. To ensure you get the best from your experience we require that the maximum number of people per group is 20. However, if there are more than 20 people in your group, we are still able to accommodate you. Larger groups will be split into smaller groups with staggered entry into the Oceanarium of 20 minutes.

How long do we need to spend at the Oceanarium?

The average visit to the aquarium lasts 60-90 minutes. However this does depend on the individuals and how much information you wish to gain. Also, you may want to build in time to watch our feeding talks and demonstrations or visit our gift shop.

What facilities do you have for disabled persons?

All of the displays are accessible by wheelchair. The aquarium is situated on 2 floors, but has a lift facility. We also have disabled toilet facilities.

Is there anywhere to eat?

We do not have any facilities where you can eat your own food or packed lunches, however during peak time we have three catering outlets which you are welcome to use. Seating can never be reserved for groups and we ask groups to be mindful of other customers.

Is there anywhere to leave bags and coats?

Admissions or any other department cannot look after bags and coats for Health and Safety reasons. We have an area situated in our buggy park outside the lift on the first floor where coats and bags can be left but this is not a supervised area so items are left there at your own risk.

Are there any additional activities for the students to do?

Students may wish to participate in our educational but fun Adventure Trail, available to pick up in the entrance to the Oceanarium. Although aimed at under 10’s, language students could find the Adventure Trail beneficial as it is designed to encourage visitors to read and understand the information boards. Throughout school holidays additional activities are hosted such as meet the creature sessions.

What are your opening times?

The Oceanarium is open from 10am everyday except Christmas Day. Closing times vary throughout the year with last admission being one hour before close. Please ring or visit the website before visiting to check for current closing times.

How do I book and pay for a group?

You can book your group visit by phone on 01202 311993 ext 208 or email Just remember you need to book at least 2 working days in advance. We ask you to pay the full amount on arrival, but for bookings that exceed £100 an invoicing system may be available, subject to terms and conditions.
