Energy and Water Efficiency
- Heating and lighting: we are proud to have upgraded our lighting throughout the site to low energy LED lights with motion sensor activation. These lights, along with their controls, help to reduce our energy consumption and can be seen in the café, shop, washrooms and across our animal departments. All our animal habitats have timed thermostatic controls, which help us save energy while still ensuring our animals needs are met.
- The water in our tanks and pools is recirculated and cleaned through extensive filtration systems to minimise its use.
- The feed for the animals in our care is sourced sustainably.
- We have installed energy saving water pumps in a number of areas to further reduce our consumption.
- Water and electricity usage across the site is strictly recorded and monitored to ensure that any anomalies can be immediately investigated and rectified, along with noting any trends that might impact future decision making relating to energy and water efficiency.
